Google launched, Chrome, their new Internet Browser this week and I have
been giving it a spin. It is, for sure, very fast and knocks Firefox
and IE into the ground on that score, but otherwise, many areas that
Firefox excels and IE doesn’t even touch. If you use Firefox, you will
know all about Tab Mix, a marvellous extension that allows a range of
tool bar modifications, including having the toolbar at the bottom of
the screen and moving and groupoing the tabs – you will also know about
Speed Dial, which gives you any number of ‘home pages’ when firing up
Firefox, and a range of other excellent extensions that make browsing a
breeze? Google promise extensions, but they will be a year at least in
coming up to Firefox standard. As Chrome is built around the Mozilla
engine, perhaps they will allow Firefox Extensions to be used with
Chrome? That would be something else entirely. I am not sure the
various menu options are that intuitive in Chrome, it is slim and simple
on screen, but I think maybe at the expense of quickly getting to
commands and menu options? I like Chrome, but going back to Firefox I
can immediately see the maturity and adaptability of this browser, which
leaves Chrome and IE standing. Also, I heard yesterday a rumour that
Google will be charging for the final non-Beta version of Chrome?
Well.. that’s me out of the shop for sure. The Internet is free, and so
should browsers be.
